What is Buldak Ramen?
Often referred to as Hot Chicken flavor Ramen is the Buldak Ramen that we see in our local Asian or Korean markets.
If we see the literal meaning, it’s Fire chicken stir-fried noodles. This is the ramen produced by Samyang food back in April 2012.
Speaking of which, do you know that this spicy ramen that people keep having until their nose starts watering, initially didn’t make it noodle-world.
Yes, it was just sitting in the Samyang lab for around 10 years. That’s an l-o-n-g time!
But why didn’t they launch it though? It is believed that they did not want to get this product out in the market since it had the concept of “Stir-fried”, which the executives were not really a fan of.
Also because they were thinking from the perspective of their customers who (the Koreans) back then used to prefer wet noodles especially with broth way more than any other.
Now if you see, Ramen is well-known especially among K-drama and K-pop viewers. Glad they launched it finally!
What is 라면 먹고 갈래? (Ramyeon meok-kko khal-le?) (Would you like to have some ramen?)
What we all know is that it is an expression of ‘Netflix & Chill’ in Korea, rather, much older than American’s phrase. But do you know when it came into existence?
Back in 2001, a movie 봄날은 간다, translated as One fine spring day released wherein, the female lead wanted to invite the male lead over to his house. Being skeptical about how she would go about it, she ended up saying “라면 먹을 래요?” (Ramyeon meo-geul-laeyo?) which basically means, “Would you like to have some Ramen?”
This trend went up and now has not come up with different variations, one of them has become a prime one which is just a twisted version of the original one - “라면 먹고 갈래? (Ramyeon meok-kko khal-le?) which means “Would you like to have ramen & then go?”
It has been shown in numerous dramas since then, a few would be What’s wrong with secretary Kim?, Crash landing on you, and many more.
However, references like GOT7’s Got2day & dramas like Hometown Cha Cha cha turn it into a meme.
Remember that the idol who asked it was a foreign member who wasn’t aware of the slang back then.
Bet you’re still laughing!
