Since there are so many amazing K-pop soloists, selecting the top 10 is incredibly difficult, but certainly the artists in the list below will win over your heart!
1. Chungha
Seven years before she ever performed as a singer, Chungha had been a dancer. When interviewed on Hit the Stage, Kim explained that she nearly quit dancing due to the financial problems faced by her family. Thankfully, she never gave up on her dream.
2. Taeyeon
Kim Taeyeon, commonly known as Taeyeon, is one of the most famous female artists living in South Korea today. Although in middle school, Kim was trained at SM Entertainment's Starlight Academy before debuting with the K-pop group Girl's Generation. On the Asian music scene the group was truly popular. As a consequence Taeyeon has become a star! With the release of her extended play "I," she chose to launch her solo career in 2015. Besides her singing activities, Kim records songs for several K-dramas and movies. She works as a DJ too!
3. IU
Lee Ji Eun goes by the name of the stage IU (a combination of the words "I" and "You"), intended to represent the singer and the listener becoming one with the music. She's recognized as one of the K-pop world's most popular and bestselling artists. She is currently considered to be the most influential K-pop celebrity alive. Moreover, IU hosts various radio and TV shows, writes songs, and stars in K-dramas! For all lovers of K-drama this is good news! Lee Ji played the lead heroine in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, a popular historical drama.
4. Ailee
Amy Lee is a Korean-American singer-songwriter and is widely known as Ailee. She's made a name for herself and she's got quite a large fan base, giving concerts all over the world! Amy was raised in California, and spent much of her New Jersey childhood. Ailee had been signed in the US under Muzo Entertainment long before her debut in Korea. However, after being noticed on TV show Singer and Trainee (see her in the K-drama Dream High), she began her acting career in South Korea. She made her American debut with the single "Drop Back" in 2017 alone, and she also performs under the stage name A.Leean.
5. Hyuna
Kim Hyun Ah is a singer and songwriter, rapper, and model, professionally known as Hyuna. You may know Hyuna from her highly popular PSY duet. Their hit song "Gangnam Style" got enormous worldwide attention! Kim debuted long before "Gangnam Style," however, and she was a member of girl groups such as Wonder Girls and 4Minute. Kim decided in 2010, to start her solo career. As she calls it, she has started making "performance-oriented music."
