K-pop Comebacks Season: What’s new in June?

K-POP COMEBACKS: JUNE

It’s only the beginning of June and we’ve got a lot to look forward to in the coming month. From fresh debuts to, solo releases and highly anticipated returns of some of the biggest acts in K-pop. Here’s a guide to which groups are making a comeback, and who to be excited for. Upcoming K-pop comebacks in June.

You’ve already seen it, but in case you’ve missed the first few days of the month here’s a breakdown of what has lit up our screens and caressed our Bluetooth speakers.

June 1st

Adora – Trouble? TRAVEL

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

This upbeat single with staggered acoustics and strings is turning out to be the song of the summer from Adora. With the recovery of the pandemic and the slow climb to everything returning to normal, more and more people are forgetting their troubles to go out and have some fun.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Even though the sentiment of this song is far from being literal, the idea that we can now travel as far and as wide as we can certainly put the spring back in our step. Adora delivered on the feel-good happiness we’ve all been craving for so long and the cute mid-western cowboy style on-top of the colorful displays lets us know it’s really time for summer. Let’s dance the night away!

Jannabi – summerfallwinter sprinG

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Jannabi’s new MV starts off with an elegant masquerade opera-esque melody, befitting to the video style. It’s mix of minor notes and somber vocals creates a mood of loneliness and isolation. The masked woman stands still shielded by her phantom-like mask with an umbrella hanging over her head.

The dark undertones and the gloomy vibe infer negativity with oneself. The aimless feeling, we get from the female character perhaps reflects the journey we all take when we need to find something. Either ourselves in our identity, comfort in others or companionship.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Whatever the interpretation, this comeback certainly sent a melancholic chill down our spines and with Jannabi’s soothing vocals, we sought a sad kind of comfort from this new song.

Diawings – Flow

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Flow has heavy beats and a groovy-ness that just makes us want to dance. You can’t help but tap your foot from the very first beat. The light and airy MV coupled with the enigmatic visuals of Diawings dancing elegantly in split-takes immediately creates a feel-good vibe.

The background piano is the perfect complement to Diawings’ delicate vocals, but the shocker here is how well the dulcet tones transitions into rap and still ties together with the background melody. You feel yourself drifting somewhere calm and positive with the sweet flow of the song.

Listen to Flow if you need something optimistic to brighten your day.

Hanbyeol – Double Like

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Double Like is a nostalgic y2k style MV with a song that feels like the first time you feel those butterflies nestled deep in your stomach for that special first crush. Hanbyeol perfectly captures the intensity and conflicting growing pains of growing up, falling in love and heartbreak all in one.

The nostalgia attached to this song evokes a certain kind of bittersweetness that you can’t help but double tap that repeat button to relive your youth once again. It makes you long for the naive hopefulness you experience growing up.

June 2nd

Jo Yuri – Album 1st Mini OP.22 Y-Waltz: in Major Title track: 러브 쉿 (Love shh!)

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Ever since debuting as a solo artist, former Iz*one member has been rocking the charts with her neo-rock-pop vibes that you can’t help but sing your heart out to.

Love SHH! from her 1st mini album release (title above) starts out with Yuri harmonizing against the electrifying strums of an electric guitar, on-top of a cute yet cheeky performance from Yuri herself as she stomps away her frustrations and bursts into song.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

There’s a definite coming-of-age feeling to the premise of this MV which is decorated with American High-school style visuals. This banger is one to add to your summer playlist if you want your summer to be all about unabashed fun!

Dvwn – Lost

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

This gripping, yet chilling song dives into a dark side of DVWN that is strikingly different, but unsurprisingly fitting to DVWN’s previous work. The cold and saturated visuals of the MV create a solemn tone and perfectly complements the ice-y notes to the song.

The vocals also leave something to be desired. DVWN captures a saccharine sadness that wavers with emotion throughout the song and makes your heart weep as you listen along to the quivering vocals.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The premise of the video is as lonely and cold as the snow used as the backdrop and the end brings a reminiscent emptiness which we feel when we miss something that never was - the title Lost’ is really fitting in this respect. A more depressing tune, but more worthy of a listen if you’re feeling particularly introspective.

Kim Hankyul – Crying

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The sombre undertone to this track feels like a soundtrack to that saddest moment in life that springs itself on you right before you pick yourself back up. Hankyul’s strong vocals and powerful notes speak of the strength in your vulnerability.

This comeback was definitely one of the top ones, and the compelling story to the MV make this single all the more addictive. It really does feel like Hankyul is singing the OST to the movie that is your life. If you also find yourself falling in love with his dulcet tones… well no one can blame, you.

This is definitely the making of a heartthrob. We’re crying too.

Baek Z Young – Love Made Me a Fool

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

‘Love Made Me a Fool’ is anything but foolish. Baek Z Young sings of the sorrows of heartbreak and the feeling of disrepair when your heart is in the darkest depths of sadness.

Her vocals evoke an utterly heart-crushing feeling of hopelessness. With the light piano notes and the simple performance, Z Young ignites a deep love and devotion within us. She is a national treasure at this point. No-one can escape the raw emotion she reflects in all of us when she embraces us with her music.

Jaeman – Stranger

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Jaeman’s new self-coposed indie-style track is a throwback to the bedroom MV’s of the early 2000’s where teenagers were overwhelmed with trying to find their identity. Set in a room with a party crowd, this song takes you on a journey with Jaeman as he searches through the crowd for that special person, or that perfect moment which makes us discover the woes and highs of life.

The bittersweet lyrics and wanting feeling make us wish for a deep love that makes us want to strive for that shared happiness. The simple soft-rock track is reminiscent of that puppy love feeling. If you want to rediscover that first love moment, where you yearn for a deep connection with someone with whom you can share your heart, this is the song for you.

June 3rd

Colde – 생일을 축하해 (Happy Birthday)

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

With a title like that you’d expect a celebratory track with uplifting beats and a feel-good vibe, but for this K-pop comeback, Colde conjured up something different and unexpectedly blue. Perhaps reflecting that bittersweetness to one’s birthday, the missed birthdays, the birthdays spent alone, this subdued happy birthday song derives from the classic blues vibe.

The dipped vocals and the flat piano notes create a grating but sleek foundation to the rest of this complex song. The maturity and poignant themes are a great reflection of losing that childhood excitement for your birthday, it shows the transition from seeing it as a happy day filled with timeless memories to a bitter reminder of how time is moving forward- perhaps faster than we are equipped for it to.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

This track perfectly encompasses this feeling, and we are grateful to Colde for putting something tangible to something as hard to explain as this.

That was a lot to take in for just 3 days but buckle-up because the rest of June does not slow down any K-pop comebacks.

Coming up!

June 4th

Jin Minho – Sober Confession

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Onto our first teaser! ‘Sober Confession’, set to drop on June 4th, is the next hit from Jin Minho. Watching the MV teaser, Minho is fidgeting on a couch, phone in hand as the camera, unmoving, shows his slow descent into irritation.

The frustration he feels onscreen is palpable, and with the short clip to the song playing on top, we can tell that this song is all about the internal frustration we feel when we’re buzzing to tell our crush how we feel but are conflicted within ourselves with the uncertainty.

Why is it that K-pop is so heart-wrenching and emotional? The way it plays on our heart’s most coveted feelings, is so dimensional that it makes you able to easily relate to every lyric.

June 5th

Kim Jaehwan – 달팽이 (Snail)

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Kim Jaehwan is due to release his new single ‘달팽이 (Snail)’ after just 6 months since his last comeback. Described as an icon for growing artists, Kim Jaehwan is notorious for producing music across a wide musical spectrum.

There’s nowhere his talent won’t reach and for this comeback, it is certain that you will be left feeling emotionally exposed as Jaehwan sings about a love so new and young, depicting the slow journey of discovering yourself within that relationship, making mistakes and ultimately wishing to be a better person.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The journey may be slow, perhaps going at a snail’s pace- which is where the clever title derives from – but ultimately the song is about having the willingness to try. Extremely deep and introspective. We can’t wait for this!

Aimy Moon – Shooting Star

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

This particular teaser adopts an anime-style video with your classic dance-pop vibes. This youthful track hints towards a new era for Aimy Moon, with a light and casual tone to the music. The title name ‘Shooting Star’ makes us all wonder where the inspiration for this single came from.

Perhaps it’s to awaken the dreamer in all of us or that feeling of childhood innocence we lose along the way to adulthood and the desire to retain some of that sparkling positivity. We’ll find out in a few days anyway but look forward to the crisp animation and happy-go-lucky vibes to this comeback.

June 6th

Son Dongwoon – The 2nd Mini Album (Happy Birthday)

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

This album drop is sure to kickstart the summer vibes with the exotic visuals and sunshine. The title track: ‘Today’s Weather’ has a groovy mix and jazz undertones that make you feel smooth and light.

The MV teaser has a cool and smooth feeling to it, set next to a stunning pool that certainly quenches the heat thrumming in our veins. The shirtless peak under Dongwoon’s hoody doesn’t hurt either. We just know Dongwoon’s going to bring the sexy back to summer with this album.

June 8th

Secret Number – Album: 4th Single DOOMCHITA

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Secret Number is releasing their 4th single ‘둠치타 (Doomchita)’ which adopts a military style premise with action-packed visuals and punchy electro-beats that get your blood pumping.

With teasers released showcasing every member, you get to enjoy and appreciate the fierce ferocity of this comeback from the compelling fits of every member. A shout for girl-power, this song is sure to be a jump-worthy fire-starter of a song that invigorates the listener with strength and motivation.

Trendz – 2nd Mini Album Blue Set Chapter 2 Choice

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Trendz’ new mini-album drop is like a soft jewel bathing in gleaming light. The visuals for this comeback speak of a regal aura that transcends the meaning of heartthrob for the 7 members.

The fiery tones to the heart-melting serenades featured in the medley bring a new feeling of excitement that makes you fall in love with the boys all over again. But really is it that difficult when they present you with outstanding demonstrations of talent like that?

June 9th

Woo!ah! – 1st Mini Album JOY

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Woo!ah!’s 1st mini album: ‘Joy’ promises soft and gentle visuals with a dream-scape vibe and a pastel palette. This comeback is definitely one to keep an eye on, as the concept photos present an elegance that is left to be desired. The chains and pastels talk about princess-meets-punk, and we can’t wait to see how this plays out come 9th of June.

June 10th

BTS – Album PROOF

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Perhaps one of the most anticipated K-pop comebacks in the industry, BTS (방탄소년단) are set to release an anthology of their entire career, with the addition of 3 unique new songs dedicated to ARMY, as well as appearances from previously unreleased songs and remixes.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

‘PROOF’ is their collection of evidence and highlights from their career that celebrates their journey and their devoted fans. It will take us on a journey from their debut to know that is certain to leave veteran army bittersweetly reminiscent, and gives the younger fans a chance to discover the depth and changes their music has gone through in the last 9 years.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The concept photos are a mix of vivacious brute with meanings of strength and protection in the face of adversity to softer themes that denote the vulnerability and sincerity of each member, reflecting the coveted duality ARMY are so crazy for. BTS has always prided themselves on their fans rather than on their own achievements.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The sentiment is so heart-felt, which is why they have the strongest and most vast fanbase on the planet. Their deep appreciation for ARMY and the mutual love shared between them is the foundation for this entire release.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

ARMY and BTS have never felt closer, and this comeback are surely the most profound symbol of love BTS has yet to offer. It’s also exciting that this comeback is happening right around their debut anniversary; June is a good month for ARMY, indeed.

June 13th

WONHO – 3rd Mini Album Façade

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Our muscley Adonis, Wonho, is gearing up for a comeback halfway through the month with his seductive visuals and titillating teasers. This more mature vibe from him is already driving fans crazy with excitement, and the buzz from his copious amounts of teaser packages is feeding fans with content left right and center.

This comeback is screaming for us to take it seriously, and with less than 2 weeks left to prepare for the onslaught of talent and music, we are left strangling for ropes to stay afloat. The 1st concept film has horror genre vibes and depicts a darkness that excited us rather than made us want to cower away.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

The grippingly sinister, doll-like vibes to the backing track call upon our desire to fall into that darkness, and with Wonho manning the ship, we wouldn’t mind falling away from sanity with him. FAÇADE is chilling and tantalizingly seductive at the same time.

It begs the question, what exactly has Wonho been hiding from us this whole time, and are we ready to see it unmask his façade?

June 15th

Drippin – 2nd Mini Album Villain: ZERO

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Young and Fiery K-Pop boy group DRIPPIN’ is releasing their 2nd mini album that has turned from boyish innocence from when they first debuted, to this almost flirtingly dangerous vibe for Villain: ZERO. The strong red aspect to the concept reaches deep within our guts to that fight or flight instinct.

The hint of danger is exciting and thrilling as it is daunting. But maybe this is a villain we wouldn’t mind falling victim to. Villains are always more interesting anyway, and with this new bad-boy vibe we are excited to get our hearts broken by the ripped jeans and leather jacket aesthetics.

OMEGA X – 1st Full album 낙서(樂서): Story Written in Music

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Doused in metal-rock vibes for their teaser film, with mischief written all over their street-aesthetic fits, OMEGA X is delivering their first full album with a bang. Promising a showcase of their variety, this album will encompass the different sides to the group, with examples of their sheer talent and boisterous need for adventure.

The young and energetic feeling is sure to get your blood pumping and your heart racing. And if that doesn’t do the trick then Hangyeom’s orange hair is sure to set your heart on fire.

PIXY – 3rd Mini Album REBORN, Title Track Villain

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

PIXY’s new femme-fatale look for their comeback perfectly encompasses the feisty villain vibes that the concept photo’s showcase. The strong use of purple in their colour palette adds a sense of poise of regale that makes you want to fall on your knees in worship. Their bad-girl aesthetic is exhilarating.

The spine-tingling whisper of ‘villain’ at the end of the concept trailer is seductive and makes great use of ASMR. You literally feel it in your bones, which sets a strong precedent for their 3rd mini album drop.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

With the title track ‘Villain’, following the ‘everybody loves the villain’ trend this season, it is certain that this comeback is one to anticipate, and maybe fear. Good music is always scary. The talent is unimaginable.

BDC – 1st single album Blue Sky

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

BDC’s 1st single ‘Blue Sky’ will be a piano ballad, if the teaser is anything to go by. The teaser seems to be an edited homage to their previous MV’s with a retro film look and a nostalgic tone.

The compilation of wonderful dance visuals is highly reminiscent and coupled with the somber piano background it adds to the sentimental feeling of the deep anguish we feel when we miss someone. The trio’s perfectly combined vocals right at the end, singing '오늘 밤 (Tonight) Blue Sky' speaks of a deep longing and sadly feels like a goodbye of sorts.

Perhaps this ready’s us for the next chapter for BDC.

June 20th

LAPILLUS – Debut

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

MLD Entertaining is debuting a new girl group near to the end of the month called LAPILLUS. If you haven’t already done your homework, here’s a quick overview of what you can expect from this rookie group. The group will consist of 6 members, with 2 prominent members already having been revealed in dreamy, yet glowing concept photos that create an elegant and pure atmosphere.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Shana is the first member to have been revealed who is seen to be wearing a lush white dress and regal necklace. Haeun’s matching white dress aesthetic adds a mystical charm to the dynamic. Shana rose to stardom by placing 6th in line for Mnet’s Girls Planet 999 last year. Haeun, born in 2008 is the youngest recorded idol to debut in an idol group, ever and is expected to bring an energized and invigorating youthfulness to the team.

The name Lapillus is inspired by the notion that 'to shine your lapillus is to change your color depending on the directions of the light', which connotes a euphemism of changing journeys and having ‘different lights’ inside you for the world to see. Deeply introspective for a fresh debut, but that makes it more sensational.

June 21st

Youngjae (GOT7) – 2nd Mini Album Sugar

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Youngjae from GOT7 is working on his 2nd hot release for his 2nd mini album titled ‘Sugar’. There’s not much we can say on this release, at present, as his teaser schedule is set to be released on June 7th when he drops the track list, but if his first mini album ‘Colors from Ars’ is any indicator, we know that Sugar will be a tooth-rotting smash.

June 22nd

Stray Kidz – JAPAN 2nd Mini Album Circus

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Stray Kidz is set to release their 2nd mini album in Japan, ‘Circus’. As well as embarking on a world tour in 2022, Stray Kids is gracing our ears with a funhouse extravaganza of crazy visuals and playful vibes.

We can already feel the mischief barking from this concept and STAYS are thrumming with insurmountable excitement for this circus fest. You’ll certainly find Japanese STAYS jumping through loops once they hear the group gracing their language with their fiery tones and unspeakable talent.

CLASS:y – JAPAN DEBUT Single Shut Down JP ver.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

CLASS:y are having their Japan debut with the release of their Japanese version for their single ‘shut down’. We already love and know the song, but the special nuance the Japanese version is sure to bring will only enhance further the charismatic charm of the group and we can’t wait to be reminded of the stimulating build-up that plays throughout the entire run-time of this invigorating tune.

June 24th

Nayeon (Twice) – SOLO DEBUT 1st Mini Album I’m Nayeon

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

TWICE’s Nayeon is getting a solo debut at the end of the month with her 1st EP appropriately titled ‘I’m Nayeon’. The title track ‘POP!’ which has a teaser release on TikTok, plays as an uplifting disco-pop track with a boosted base to enhance the beats and a glittery feeling to the overall vibe.

The cover for the album shows Nayeon in a yellow, frilly do and wispy hairstyle decorated with delicate ribbon. The corset and sneakers are a welcome contrast in style, giving a very modern look to the whimsical essence to the concept.

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

As for the rest of the album, we can surely expect to see new sides and styles to Nayeon, that she hasn’t yet previously been able to explore as a member of TWICE. This is just the starting point for her career, and we are excited to watch her grow and improve as an artist.

Her TWICE members are also really excited, and we can assume that this is the first of many great solo debuts from the members of the group to come.

June 29th

XG – 2nd single MASCARA

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

XG’s 2nd single ‘MASCARA’ is due to drop at the end of the month with an artistic and glamorous track to kickstart any night out on the town. MASCARA’s teaser is a snappy and succinct vogue-esque art-film that has a clear inspiration to the booming fashion era of the 80’s.

With a suggested self-filmed aesthetic, XG have taken full reign for this MV and are presenting a wholly inventive and nouveau style to this comeback.  The jeweled and sparkly, retro composition in the teaser promises a smooth and fashionable track that will bring poise to any room’s vibe.

Look forward to seeing just how much potential XG has.

Rocket Punch – JAPAN 1st Single Flore

(Image: Credits to the rightful owner)

Though relatively small, Rocket Punch has caught the eye of overseas fans all the way in Japan for them to be releasing their first Japanese single ‘Flore’. The flora aesthetic with the soft and summery tones in the songs concept photos encompasses the true meaning of spring and summer.

It represents the precipice between both seasons, and showcases the beautiful, scenic views this time of year has to offer. There’s no official MV teaser yet, so all we must rely on are their stunning concept photos.

This girl group is one to watch in the coming weeks, and we just know their Japanese fans will make this a hit.

This is all that has been confirmed for June.

Though there are rumored K-Pop comebacks still yet to be announced for groups such as Loona, Fromis_9 and Tiger JK, so watch this space for more news!!!  It’s a busy, busy month for K-pop stars, so if you’re new to this incredible world of talent and artistry, keep an eye on all these acts and more in the coming weeks.
