Happy Best Friends Day! A Look at Idols Friendships

BEST FRIEND DAY

June 8th is a special day. It’s Best Friends Day!

This holiday is celebrated in countries including the United States, South Korea, and Australia. People usually post messages on their social media, send cards or gifts, or go out with their besties. It can be a small gesture, but it’s the thought that counts.

Here are some close friendships between your favorite idols that you should know about:

Ravi and Kai

It may surprise some fans, but EXO’s main dancer and VIXX’s rapper are friends. And they’ve known each other almost since the beginning! (Both groups debuted in 2012.)

Ravi first saw Kai at M Countdown, wearing his earbuds and dancing his heart out. Impressed, he searched up Kai on the Internet. Ravi later reached out to him, and they became friends.

This friendship has led to some hilarious interactions. In October 2021, Ravi invited Kai onto his show “Ravi’s Secret Clinic.” It quickly turned into an exchange of roasts (mostly from Kai) and regrets over the invitation (mostly from Ravi).

All jokes aside, these idols care for and support each other. Theirs is a friendship we’d all like to have!

Moonbyul and Sandeul

What do Mamamoo’s main rapper and B1A4’s main vocalist have in common? They’re members of the 92 Club!

The 92 Club members were all born in 1992 and also include B1A4’s Baro, BTS’ Jin, EXID’s Hani, and VIXX’s Ken. In a 2018 “Weekly Idol” episode, Moonbyul mentioned that the group went out for drinks and to Escape Room cafes.

While fans are probably more familiar with Moonbyul and Jin’s friendship, her interactions with Sandeul can’t be ignored. The duo even appeared on KBS2’s “In Sync” and performed “Farewell Under the Sun” together.

The show also provided opportunities for some friendly teasing.

There are other idol friend groups based on age, including the ’97 line: BTS’ Jungkook; NCT’s Jaehyun; GOT7’s Yugyeom and BamBam; and Seventeen’s The8, Mingyu, and Dokyeom.

Changbin and Wooyoung

Stray Kids and ATEEZ both participated in Kingdom: Legendary War (2021). Fans quickly noticed the chemistry between Changbin and Wooyoung. But even before the show, it was clear that the rapper and dancer have been friends for a while.

Wooyoung confirmed their friendship in a Vlive in April 2020. He first met Changbin through another high school friend. Later, they ran into each other at Music Bank, and that was when their friendship really took off.

Changbin and Wooyoung are also friends with TXT’s Yeonjun. The three of them even took selfies together, which the idols showed netizens in their live broadcasts in January 2022.

Despite their busy schedules, Changbin and Wooyoung make time to work out and play video games together.

IU and Yoo In-na

We’ve seen friendships between dancers, rappers, and singers. Now, let’s look at a friendship between a singer-actress and an actress!

Lee Ji-eun (IU) and Yoo In-na met while filming the show Heroes. Despite their age difference –11 years - they discovered they had a lot in common, and they became inseparable.

In a 2020 episode of “Jung Eunji’s Music Plaza,” Yoo said, “I think [IU’s] become my life itself. I never thought about her not being in my life, but when I thought about her not being there, I thought, ‘I would really miss her.’”

IU has expressed her feelings for Yoo through her music. During her acceptance speech at the 2017 Melon Music Awards for the Album of the Year, she called Yoo “My Muse, My Star.” And while filming Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo in a remote location, IU wrote the song “You,” channeling her loneliness and isolation from her friend.

Want more proof of their friendship? IU and Yoo went out on a Valentine’s Day “date” in 2017, with the singer posting photos on her Instagram.

With conflicting schedules and the media spotlight, it’s not easy for idols to make friends from other groups or companies. But these examples show that true friendship is unstoppable.

Happy Best Friends Day to all our lovely Seoulmates!
