My Name is Loh Kiwan

My Name is Loh Kiwan is the story of a North Korean defector (Song Joong-ki) who goes to an unfamiliar country, Belgium, from North Korea because of his mother Ok-Hee (Kim Sung-Ryoung). He wants to settle down in the country, but his only hope for him to stay is to receive refugee status from the Belgium government, which he fights to get. Loh Ki-Wan then meets Mari (Choi Sung-Eun) who used to have a Korean citizenship but she has now received Belgian citizenship. In her past, she was a shooter. Unlike Loh Ki-Wan, who came to Belgium to live a new life, Mari does not have a reason to live. They have an unpleasant first meeting, but fall in love with each other. It is a romantic melodrama, and we can expect to see some excellent performances from Song Joong Ki and Choi Sung Eun. It airs on March 1, 2024.

2. Queen of Tears

Queen of Tears is an astonishing love story where married couple Baek Hyun-Woo (Kim Soo-Hyun) and Hong Hae-In (Kim Ji-Won) go through a crisis. Baek Hyun-Woo is the legal director for company Queens Group. He is the most successful person to have come from his hometown of Yongdu-ri and he is the pride of that village. Baek Hyun-Woo is married to Hong Hae-In, who is the daughter of the family that owns and operates Queens Group. She is known as the "Arrogant Queen” at Queens Department Store. Do not miss the first episode on March 9 to see the great chemistry between beloved Kim Soo-Hyun and Hong Hae-In.

3. The 8 Show

The 8 Show

The 8 Show, based on Bae Jin-Soo’s webcomics "Money Game" and "Pi Game". It tells the story of 8 people in need of money who are invited to appear on reality variety show Money Game. It will be a show for Squid Game fans. The 8 people are to stay at the studio that consists of nothing but concrete walls. If they can hang in there for 100 days, they can divide the winning prize of 44.8 billion won equally. But everything they spend for, including necessities like food, water, electricity, costs 1,000 times more than normal prices and are deducted from the winning prize. At first, IU was cast to play the lead female role, but, prior to filming, had to drop out due to her schedule. Chun Woo-Hee was then cast to play the lead female role. It will air on Netflix on May 17th.

4. Chicken Nugget

This series could be one of the weirdest comedy storylines we will see in a K-drama. It is based on the webtoon "Dakgangjeong” by Park Ji-Dok. The show starts with a machine being delivered to Choi Sun-Man’s (Ryu Seung-Ryong) small machine company. Choi Sun-Man and Go Baek-Joong (Ahn Jae-Hong), the intern working at the company, assume that the device is to relieve fatigue that was sent by PhD Choi. Meanwhile, the beautiful Choi Min-A (Kim You-Jung) visits her father’s office to drop off sweet and spicy fried chicken. Choi Min-A sees the machine that was delivered and decides to try it out to relieve her fatigue. She gets into the machine, but she then turns into a piece of sweet and spicy fried chicken. Choi Sun-Man and Go Baek-Joong struggle to bring her back to human form during the rest of the show. It was originally set to air in March 15th but it was pushed back to April/June of this year.

5. Parasyte: The Grey

Parasyte: The Grey

The Korean live-action adaptation of the beloved Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Japanese manga Parasyte could not be in the hands of anyone better than Train to Busan’s creator Yeon Sang Ho. The story revolves around Jung Soo In (Jeon So-Nee), who gets infected with a parasite and starts a strange cohabitation as it fails to take over her brain. Seol Kang Woo (Koo Gyo-Hwan) chases a parasitic water to find his missing sister, and Choi Jun Kyung (Lee Jung-Hyun) is the head of the parasitic life team ‘The Grey’, and lives only to eradicate the parasitic water after losing her husband to this parasitic water. It will be released on April 4th this year.

6. Sweet Home Season 3

Sweet Home Season 3

Netflix’s supernatural series Sweet Home is thankfully coming back with the third season this year. Our favorites Song Kang, Go Min Si, and Lee Do Hyun are back to lead the fight for survival against monstrous beings and their own inner demons for the last time. On the first trailer, surprisingly, despite his absence from season 2's active role, Lee Do-hyun was seen. Fans of the Sweet Home series were thrilled to see Lee Do Hyun's character, Lee Eun Hyeok, back in action with the release of the season 3 teaser. The last season of this series explains the monsters’ origins, reasons for their doings, and finding out what makes them vulnerable. The release date is yet to be announced.

7. Gyeongseong Creature Season 2

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2

Gyeongseong Creature will be returning with Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee. Rather than repeating their roles, the story will take place in the modern-day, in 2024, where they will each play a new character, and how they link to the past remains to be seen. They will dig into the story of their unfinished relationship, fate, and their past from Gyeongseong. It is thought to be released in July to September of this year.

The story portrays the love, friendship, revenge, and compassion that takes place when Kang Ha (Lee Chae-Min), a transfer student, enters Joosin High School, a prestigious private school where the children of the top 0.01% of conglomerates gather. But he holds a secret. Because of him, the concrete world of Jooshin High School begins to crack. It is expected to be released in the second quartef of 2024, and it is certain that it will be the one of favorites this year for viewers that like high school dramas.
