K-pop idols are professional artists. They wow audiences with their stage presence, visuals, vocals, and choreography. But they’re also human, and sometimes they do things that are funny or stupid by mistake.

Sometimes, members forget their lines.

And sometimes, their facial expressions and live performances completely clash with the song, as we see in ZE:A’s “After Effect” stage!
What Is “After Effect”?
“After Effect” or “Aftermath” is the title track of ZE:A’s second studio album “Spectacular,” released on July 4, 2012. It went viral in 2020 after appearing on “How Do You Play?” on MBC.

The music is upbeat, but the lyrics – about a person dealing with a breakup - are dark.

The second half of the song returns to the theme of turning back time:
And then there’s the chorus:
It’s a depressing song. And if you’re unfamiliar with Korean, the music video, with its muted color palette and the members’ (mostly) sorrowful expressions, will tell you that this isn’t a happy love story.

So, what happened onstage?
Funniest Moment Is Heart Unsync:
ZE:A performed “After Effect” on KBS on August 17th, 2012. And, well, there are so many hilarious moments here that we don’t know where to start.

The funniest is, of course, Dongjun’s failed attempt at a heart with Siwan. He tries to recover by scratching his head, but it’s still very awkward. (And cute!)

Who Is Ze:A?
Now that you know the song, it’s time to learn more about the group!

ZE:A, or Children of Empire, is a group formerly under Star Empire Entertainment. There are nine members:
- Lee Hoo /Moon Junyoung,
- Kevin/Kevin Kim,
- Kwang/Hwang Kwang-hee,
- Siwan/Im Si-wan,
- Taeheon/Kim Taeheon,
- Heechul/Jeong Hee Cheol,
- Minwoo/Ha Min Woo,
- Hyungshik/Park Hyung-sik,
- Dongjun/Kim Dong-jun
Between 2010 and 2017, they released three studio albums, four single albums, two compilation albums, and four EPs. (Not including their Japanese or subunit releases).

The members’ contracts with Star Empire expired in 2017, and they left the company. False rumors circulated that the group had disbanded. The artists and Star Empire itself confirmed that ZE:A is on hiatus but remains active.
You can still support ZE:A’s members in their solo projects. In fact, some of the idols are actors with their own films and K-dramas!

Everyone’s heard of Park Hyung-sik, right? He’s appeared in “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth”, “Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon,” and most recently “Soundtrack #1.” Hyungshik will join his fellow Wooga Fam members in “In the Soop: Friendship Trip” this summer. His newest drama “Youth Climb the Barrier” airs later this year.

Im Si-wan has appeared in everything from historical dramas (“Moon Embracing the Sun”) to workplace dramas (“Misaeng: Incomplete Life”) and romance (“Run On”). This year, he starred in “Tracer” and made a cameo in “Thirty-Nine.”
Si-wan’s most recent film, “Emergency Declaration,” was screened at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and will be released in South Korea on August 3. He’ll appear in the series “Summer Strike” as the male lead.

Kim Dong-jun is also a versatile actor. K-drama fans might recognize him from “Black” and “Joseon Exorcist”, while variety show watchers will remember him from “Delicious Rendezvous” and “Law of the Jungle.” Dongjun’s military service hasn’t stopped his TV appearances, either. He appeared in an episode of “The Backpacker Chef” on June 23, 2022.

Finally, we can’t forget Variety King Hwang Kwang-hee. He’s appeared on and/or hosted many shows, including “Infinite Challenge,” Weekly Idol,” and “The Best Cooking Secrets.” This year, he hosted “Nego King” and “Healing,” just to name a few.
